Welcome

Taylor Hall is my favorite player ever. Rebuilding since 2006. I have animosity towards Tyler Seguin.

Revisiting the 2011 Draft vol. 2

2nd round selection - 31st overall
GP40, G1-A16-P17
This is David Musil, the Oilers 2011 2nd round pick. He has had a solid season for Vancouver this year, he looked good in rookie camp and he played for his country (see photo above) at this years WJC.

I watched David play the Finns, Czechs and our beloved Canadians. He was put out against every teams' top line and played the role damn well. Though, in training camp, he clearly looked out of place and in need of some seasoning. The speed of the game was too quick and his foot speed needs to get better. He can think the game, but it's a matter of applying his decisions in a formidable time. The early returns are okay, but I think we can argue some later picks are already looking better.

32nd overall
GP48, G42-A43-P85
This is Ty Rattie, he plays for the Portland Winterhawks and is putting together a very nice season. Drafted right after Musil, the 6'0, 173 pounder has the talent to play in the NHL, but needs some size. Ty Rattie has the potential to be better than most in this draft due to the premium placed on scoring. Isn't it weird, how the NHL tries so damn hard to increase scoring but we haven't seen any dramatic changes? Anyway, looking at his year in comparison to Mr. Musil, I don't think we can say, with confidence, that we got the BPA.

33rd overall selection, Rocco Grimaldi, is a 5'6 pip-squeak who was hit with a major injury this year, this is a huge down arrow on what was already an uphill climb for him to the show. Musil > Grimaldi

34th overall selection, Scott Mayfield, goes to University of Denver. Nuff said, next.

GP35, G24-A27-P51
Saint John Sea Dog, Tomas Jurco, was drafted by Detroit 35th overall. You know he's gonna turn into a useful NHLer in 4-5 years down the road. Jurco has the skill and also has some experience that not many people have - winning the Memorial Cup. He took part in this years WJC, down in Calgary. His scouting report is fairly good too.

GP23, G2-A20-P22
This is Adam Clendening. Of note, I had the pleasure of going to the WJC here in Edmonton, I saw USA play both the Finns and the Czechs. When I was watching the play, this guy always stood out on the ice. He was very impressive. He has more flare than David Musil and takes more risks, but if he learns when and when not to take risks he might be a very solid player. He goes to Boston University - say goodbye to physicality - and almost a PPG, that's pretty damn good. I think Musil's defense might be better, but the offense in Clendening seems very good. I know lots of kids lose their offense in the NHL, but Clendening will put up more points than Musil, that's for sure.

I want to do this series because Stu gets a lot of hype, and I'm interested to see how good the players are that we haven't drafted - the selections that happen right after. Tyler Dellow has a very good piece up and people should go check it out.

We have to let the dust settle a little longer to make a judgement here.
